The Weekend Watchlist: Halloween Edition!

Welcome back to the Weekend Watchlist, and we have an exciting treat in store for you! This blog features our top recommendations for films and activities, perfectly tailored for the Halloween season.

Let's kick things off with our recommendations for cosy October nights filled with family fun—nothing too scary, we promise!

Starting with the classics, you can find these Halloween specials on popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+:

Gabby’s Dollhouse - If your little one is a fan of Gabby’s Dollhouse, you're in for a treat. Netflix offers a Halloween special episode called ‘Happy CAT-O-Ween!’ from last year. Join Gabby, Pandy, Baby Box, Mercat, and Cakey as they make cat-o-lanterns, go on a treat hunt, and create banana ghosts.

Scooby-Doo - Nearly every episode of this nostalgic show is a Halloween special! From ghouls to swamp monsters, the Mystery Machine is always ready for an adventure. Find this classic show on Amazon Prime, along with some iconic Scooby-Doo films that are sure to make you giggle. Join Mystery Inc. this October and introduce your little problem solvers to a staple from your childhood.

Lilo and Stitch - While not too scary, this series features a lovable space monster named Stitch. Every episode is filled with humour and chaos. Check out the Halloween special involving a new character called Experiment 300 on Disney+.

Now, let's delve into the powerhouse of nostalgia for grown-ups and discover some amazing films on Disney+:

Hocus Pocus 1 & 2 - The 1993 classic is a Halloween staple for most families, and last year, a new Hocus Pocus film brought the Sanderson sisters back! While Hocus Pocus 2 received mixed reviews due to high expectations, it's still an excellent watch for both adults and kids, offering a dose of Halloween nostalgia.

The Nightmare Before Christmas - Are you torn between loving Christmas and Halloween? Then this classic, with its delightful blend of both, is perfect for you. It's a musical, magical, and monstrous adventure. And don't forget to check out our Nightmare Before Christmas-themed clothing for an extra spooktacular touch.

If you're still in the mood for Tim Burton, consider exploring Frankenweenie and The Corpse Bride, but be cautious with younger viewers as these films can be a bit spooky. An interesting theory suggests these three films share the same dog and main character—Victor in Frankenweenie is the same as Victor in The Corpse Bride, who later becomes Jack Skellington in the afterlife. Is this theory true? We'll leave that for you to decide.

That wraps up our Halloween edition of the Weekend Watchlist! But stay tuned because we have some scarily good activities lined up for you right here!

For the Creative Ones: DIY Bat Halloween Decorations

Materials you'll need:

Leftover toilet roll cardboard
Black paper
Black paint
Googly eyes
Glue

Craft your own charming bat Halloween decorations with these straightforward steps:

Step One: Begin by painting the toilet roll cardboard black. Allow it to thoroughly dry.

Step Two: Take the black card or paper and cut it into a right-angled triangle shape. Include some sharp cutouts of oval shapes on the longer side of the triangle to form the bat wings. Repeat this process for the other wing.

Step Three: Affix googly eyes to the front of the painted toilet roll. There you have it - your very own DIY bat decorations for Halloween.

For the Food Enthusiasts: DIY Brain Cupcakes

For this delightful Halloween treat, you have two options: bake cupcakes from scratch if you have the time, or shop-bought cupcakes work just as well!

Step One: Begin with your cupcake and ensure they have a nicely rounded top.

Step Two: Prepare some buttercream by beating together butter and sugar, then add a small amount of pink food coloring - just enough to achieve a pale pink shade.

Step Three: This is the fun part. You'll need a piping bag to create wiggly lines on each half of the top of the cupcake, making sure there's a divide in the center.

There you have it - your very own brain cupcakes, perfect for little zombies this Halloween!
