The Weekend Watchlist - Spooky Edition

This edition of the weekend watchlist is for all the ghouls who love a good scare, and the little witches and wizards that live for the spooky season. In this edition we have film and TV options for both big kids and little kids to lift your spirits.

Whether you're sitting in waiting for the trick or treaters, or going out to watch the big screen, we've got the best Halloween recommendations for you!

🎃 Hocus Pocus 1 & 2 (PG, Disney+ and in Cinema)

The original 1993 classic is an absolute Halloween staple for most families, where the Sanderson sisters wreak havoc on the town of Salem. But this year, just in time for Halloween, there has been a brand new Hocus Pocus movie where the Sanderson sisters return! Hocus Pocus 2 hasn't had the best reviews admittedly, this may be because the sequel has been long awaited and people were expecting a bit more. After all, you can't please everyone, but we think this movie is an excellent watch for both adults and kids, especially if you fancy a bit of nostalgia this Halloween.

🎃Scooby Doo (PG, HBO Max)

Take your pick from a huge selection of series and movies, both animated and live action. Scooby Doo is an excellent way to get those spooky vibes this Halloween without petrifying your entire family!

🎃The Nightmare Before Christmas (PG, Disney+)

Are you a Christmas lover? Or is Halloween the new Christmas? Well the classic yet fantastic Nightmare Before Christmas is the one for you, with the gloriously gross mixture of Halloween and Christmas, this movie is musical, magical and equally monstrous! As an addition to a spooktacular evening, check out our Nightmare Before Christmas clothes.

🎃Casper (PG, Disney+)

If you'd rather not have a few sleepless nights after the kids have scared the life out of themselves, the Casper movies are an ultimate choice! They are charming and Casper is the friendliest little ghost you will ever meet.

Now for the big kids we've got some super scary suggestions that definitely don't welcome little eyes and ears, so please don't put these choices on for family movie night!

🎃Halloween (18+, Amazon prime, and in Cinema)

As I'm sure you're well aware, the Halloween saga has a new release called Halloween Ends which is supposedly the final addition, but you never know.... The 13 movies  (the spooky number is intentional I'm sure) follow the story of Laurie Strode and Michael Myers, the gory and gruesome movies make for a spooktacular night in, if you're into slasher movies.

🎃IT (18+, Amazon prime)

Both the original and the newest rendition of the IT movies are absolutely terrifying. These films are most certainly not clowning around. Both the 1990’s of IT and the 2017 version of it are equally terrifying but in different ways. The obscure and demented clown is most certainly one to watch if you want to scare yourself silly.

🎃Insidious (18+, Amazon prime)

Between the severely creepy music and the astral projection into a ghost realm these movies have got serious scary vibes. Insidious is not one for the faint of heart, you need a blanket to hide your eyes and a night light to make it through to the next day with your sanity intact. But we would highly recommend this movie if you’re after a terrifying movie night without the kids.

We hope that you trick or treat yourself this Halloween with our selection of classics and enjoy your movie night, goblin' candy until the sun comes up.
